Then next day, we went on to Capernaum where Peter lived. Jesus spent most of his life and ministry in that town as well. Capernaum is simply a historical site, no town, no stores, no hotels, nothing. Mount of Beatitudes is just north of Capernaum. The miracle of the swine (where Jesus casted Legion into the pigs) is just a couple miles southeast. Bethsaida is just east of Capernaum. Jesus' life and ministry was all over that region!

This was Peter's house below the church building. There is a glass floor where you can see Peter's house in aerial view (it's not really far down, though)
The Sea of Galilee (northern part) was directly behind Peter's house. Remember, he was a fisherman with his father, Zebedee and his brother, Andrew (Mark 1:16-20)
