Kursi (Gergesa)

We went to Kursi which is the location of Gergesa or Garasenes where Jesus did a miracle healing a man with many demons (Legion) in Mark 5:1; Luke 8:26. At first, we thought the water was directly beside the cliff. After visiting the place where Jesus did this miracle, it wasn't what we thought. Jesus arrived by boat. As soon as he got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came to Jesus immediately. Our first thought was, the pigs must be less than a 1/4 of a mile up the cliff. From the Sea of Galilee to the cliff we visited (pictured below) is about a 1/4 of a mile. The cliff was steep and wide, wide enough for 2,000+ pigs to rush down the steep bank then into the lake to drown.

There was a place of worship (ruins) many years ago until the Persians came and destroyed it. In the place of worship was a small baptistry, an olive oil press and a crypt.
